Drawn rest of replicaterer ordersI've finally drawn the winning entries of replicaterer orders. As my prune juice gag in Ensign Recruitment got the cartoon censored out of newspapers, I decided to cull a similar prune juice gag. Happily, that freed up space so I managed to fit 3 winning entries.(1 comments) |

Miscsevlaneous contest: Pollution OlympicsThe big concern going into the Beijing Olympics is not terrorism but pollution as the athletes are forced to compete while gasping in a delightful cocktail of ozone and smog. This will be particularly tough on the marathon runners although some creative solutions may alleviate conditions as seen in this week's Miscsevlaneous Contest.(1 comments) |

Drawn rest of lethal kidsI received more bad news yesterday. The newspaper in its infinite wisdom deemed good terrorist unsuitable for children. Terrorism is apparently not appropriate material for children's cartoons - who would've thought?! Consequently, I've had to hurriedly draw another sunday (which I'm behind schedule on anyway) and just finished lethal kids. My original plan for this cartoon was a social comment on all the violence in Prince Caspian by drawing images of Peter running bad guys through, Susan picking off crowds of soldiers with her bow and arrow. Ironically, I've had to remove all violence from my social comment on violence. Of course, there's no guarantee this one will get through either - and I thought my crude/lewd rules were strict!

Sev Space Sunday contest: Wardrobe explainedThere's nothing worse than taking something magically enigmatic and boiling it down to mundane, quantifiable science. Take midi-chlorians, George Lucas' infamous misstep. And now this week's Sev Space Sunday Contest takes a leaf out of the Lucas book by having a Timelord explain how you can fit an entire world in a small, wooden box.(2 comments) |

A Time to Laugh cartoon: fearfully madeSince Pamela Anderson's cameo on Australian Big Brother last week, I've been musing on what determines a person's value in society. I've come to the conclusion (prefacing this with the disclaimer that this is a thought in progress) that a person's worth lies not in their looks, achievements or belongings but simply in the fact that every person is a unique, custom designed work of God. Noone should consider themselves worthless but also not think too highly of themselves. Thinking about it has shifted my ideas of self worth but also how I relate to others. Anyway, I thought I'd take my half baked theory for a bit of a test drive in today's A Time to Laugh cartoon on how we are wonderfully and fearfully made.(13 comments) |

Winner for Persistent Daleks - new GateSev hasn't had a "Gate" in a while - the last being, I believe, "CrocodileGate" when Lance was controversially eaten by crocodiles. And of course this was just an extension of "ThePitsJumpedTheSharkWhenMadelineMovedIntoThePitsGate" which has been ongoing for a while. So when we chose the winning punchline (written by James Collier) for the Dr Whatshisname cartoon on Persistent Daleks, a debate erupted on whether to use the original word "canned" or change it to "tinned" (read all the gory details in the IRC JS transcript). In the end, agreeing to disagree, we went to a Sevqueen decision and she liked the sound of "canned". Then we had a debate on what to call the scandal. The general consensus was "Cannedgate" although maybe we should throw a bone to the Tinned advocates and called it "Tinnedgate" :-)(9 comments) |
